Regional Special Vehicle Unit (RSVU) is a volunteer based, non-profit organization, based in King County and Washington State, specializing in mobile search and rescue operations in terrain that would not be passable by conventional vehicles. (ATV’s and Snowmobiles) With roots in mobile, mountain and ground searches, we have a team of rescuers, communications and wilderness specialists to assist in active rescue, search and/or recovery missions.
Our members – RSVU is 100% made of volunteers that dedicate themselves to serving the communities of King county. The team continually strives to follow the most current rescue methodology and practices in providing the safest, most expedient, and effective rescue operations available. This while maintaining the highest proficiency in search and rescue techniques, wilderness and off-road navigation and operations. RSVU relies completely on its volunteers, their personal all-terrain vehicles and their equipment. Our volunteers come from vast backgrounds, are typically members of other SAR units as well and represent years of accumulated search and rescue experience. RSVU, under the guidance of King County Office of Emergency management, trains and works together with public safety agencies to ensure that the public is served in the best way possible.
There is a considerable amount of funds needed to run our operational team. These funds covers mostly protective equipment for our team members, required communications gear, vehicle assistance and recovery gear, along with rigorous and costly training courses that are required WA State core compliance. As RSVU is a registered nonprofit and is entirely self-funding, the majority of this money is raised through fundraisers and donations.
